Lyndon Barrois

Lyndon Barrois is an artist who creates unique art using chewing gum wrappers. He specializes in creating tiny people with these wrappers, and then animating it using stop motion, through the app stop motion studio pro. Since a young age, he created these small characters having being bored, and unsure of what to do. He took this on professionally when he joined Calarts in the animation program. After joining calarts, he was able to animate his tiny characters, and became better and better in modelling these characters as well.

His work of gum wrapper characters was further showcased in many exhibitions. He has also gained recognition for specifically showcasing sports and athletes through the characters. I thought the process he follows in creating his characters was so unique, because before I had heard his name, I had never thought that gum wrappers could be used as a material to work with in stop motion animation. I though it couldn't be true, until I visited it in person, and saw these tiny characters. It was beautiful how much detail went into creating each individual character. Other than the actual animation part of it, he also created some incredible sculptures using these characters. 2 of them stood out to me. One of them was a shovel, which he covered in these gum wrapper characters. they weren't painted, but it was beautifully placed on the shovel. It felt like every character had a purpose. Another one that stood out was a zoetrope he created. It was a horse running, and a man sitting on its back. Both the horse, and the person was made out of gum wrappers. This was interesting, because, even though the zoetrope did show movement, it was interesting how the gum wrappers also brought a 3D effect to the movement.

Other than creating gum wrapper characters, and animating them, he was also known for participating in several famous films like The Matrix, where he worked on the visual effects.

Visiting Lyndon's studio and his his house was absolutely amazing, because it was so beautiful. He had an amazing collection of contemporary art, and they were all original pieces by many different artists. It felt like everything in his house was an art piece. His walls were full of art and the furniture was very uniquely styled, and everything was beautifully placed around his house. Even the ceiling had artwork. Was an amazing experience to view all his artwork.
