Ryan Gillis

Ryan Gillis is an artist from Florida, who has a Cuban mother, and an american father. being part Cuban, Ryan Gillis' work reflects this culture. Gillis moved to Los Angeles, as his passion for art continued, and he joined USC to study animation. His thesis film Palm Rot was screened at Sundance in 2015. Since then he worked in various roles in animation including storyboarding, writing, directing, etc. He was also an executive producer for various studios like Titmouse, Disney TVA, Annapurna, and Hulu. Currently, he is developing an adult animation project.

With looking at all of his work, I enjoyed watching his thesis film the most. especially how it ended. It felt like it ended on a cliffhanger, and left me wanting more. I did enjoy seeing his presentation in the seminar class, because he was one of the only person who explained in depth what a studio looks for, and what to present when presenting a concept for a film. I thought that was interesting and important, as we are just stepping into the world of animation. It was a bit daunting to see how many different processes that Gillis went through to get his series Stugo approved to go into production. I also did love the concept of Stugo, and I though that was an interesting idea.
